I felt for all of South Africa when Cronje confessed to match fixing: Waugh

Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has said he felt bad for all of South Africa when their inspirational captain Hansie Cronje confessed to having indulging in match fixing.

Waugh stressed that Cronje was South Africa's role model and nobody could have ever doubted his spirit.

"Yes. I just felt for all of South Africa. They were totally shattered. He was their hero. Their national captain. Their role model and one who everyone thought was playing in the right spirit of the game. It was totally out of character," said Waugh while speaking to News.com.au.

He further said that the players and even the opposition players felt duped by Cronje's revelation.

"People felt cheated and as an opposition player you felt cheated that maybe some of the games you played against him were not above board," he added. (ANI)
